    The staff at Smithson Craighead Academy supports and encourages parent involvement at all levels of the organization.

    At SCA we believe parent and community involvement have a positive impact on student achievement.Therefore we:

    • Create meaningful opportunities for parents to participate in the classroom and school.
    • Welcome parental imput on committees or through informal contacts.
    • Communicate effectively with parents so they can support and assist with home learning projects.

     

     

     


The Mission

The mission of Smithson Craighead Academy (SCA) is to provide children who are at risk of school failure with a strong foundation in basic skills and positive behavior skills.These two factors involve - interaction among educators, the students's families, and the community - resulting in a school with a welcoming, supportive enviroment that leads each child toward success in school and in life.The long- term vision of Smithson Craighead Academy includes continuing to work toward education reform to meet the needs of all children, as well as continuing the exposure of the charter school movement  in Tennessee through publicized activities and expanding campuses to serve the critical needs of at - risk children.The primary academic goal of SCA is to build basic skills as a foundation for the ongoing success of every child.The subject area emphasis is placed in reading and mathematics.Each classroom is equipped with small - group learning centers to provide differentiated, individualized and indirect instructional opportunities for the students.SCA is proud of our increased collaborations with parents, various community groups and universities such as the Hendersonville Links, our Pencil Partnership with Avenue Bank, Hospital Corporation of America (HCA), the Metropolitan /Davidson County Foster Grandparent Program through Fifty Forward, Inc., Families First Program of Tennessee, Fisk University, Tennessee State University (Department of Education Graduate School), Vanderbilt University, Father Ryan High School, John Paul II High School, St.Joseph Middle School, Nashville Predators, Nashville Ballet, Nashville Opera, Nashville Sounds, Cumberland Manor Assisted Service of America (ISOA) - provided resources of a broader, more creative and productive learning environment for the students.We are committed to continuing to maintain and establish collaborations that lead to academic and social success.
